About Us

Bernerbarn is located in Ardrossan Alberta.  We have owned dogs all our lives and met Bernese Mountain Dogs about 20 years ago.  We were fortunate to obtain two exceptional females from Nitroberner Kennel and with Abby and Bella our showing began in both conformation and obedience.  In 2017 we added a beautiful red and white Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Candy, to our family and in 2018 we added a feisty tri-coloured Corgi female Maggie. Next came our beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog Mia and Pembroke Welsh Corgis Georgie, Gracie, Patty, and Tommy. We strive to breed quality dogs that meet breed standards and are excellent in health and genetics.  All of our dogs are raised in a healthy, loving environment, in our home. 

Understanding the genetics of a breed is essential to ensure you pick the right breed for your family and your lifestyle.  Choosing breeding pairs with excellent genetics and performing breed specific health testing ensures you get the best quality puppy.  Our dogs are members of our family.  Their show and breeding careers are secondary to their most important job which is being a wonderful member of our family.  They live in our home and socialize with other family dogs every week.  They are trained early to ensure they are polite and obedient. 

Bernese Mountain Dogs are BIG dogs so you need to understand they are going to require space and exercise to be happy and healthy.  They also molt twice per year and love to share their hair with your food.  Corgis look sleeker than a Berner, but they shed at lest as much! We call it "Corgi Glitter".  Berners are quieter and "gentle giants".  They love their families and need a lot of time with people.  Corgis are busy and energetic, and they are very good at keeping themselves entertained.  They also love their families and like to go out for frequent walks.
